This week we head out to Queens and break down Kid N Play's 'Last Night'. The song uses several recognizable samples including 'Theme From the Planets' by Dexter Wansel, Esther Williams 'Last Night Changed It All' and Rufus and Chacka Khan's 'Ain't Nobody'

This week we head out to Roosevelt, Long Island and break down 'Rebel Without A Pause' by Public Enemy. The track includes a dope sample from the 'Grunt' by the JB's.

In 1989 Tommy Boy Records released Queen Latifahs debut album "All Hail the Queen". The album featured the hit single "Dance for  Me" produced by DJ Mark the 45 King. The single has a sample from Alvin Cash's 1969 record  "Keep On Dancing".

Chubb Rock's 1991 smash hit 'Treat em Right' uses a sample from Dee Felice Trio's cover of the James Brown song 'There Was a Time'. This 7 inch was released on the Bethlehem label in 1969 and was produced by James Brown himself.

This week we break down the greatest emcee of all time, Rakim. 'Microphone Fiend' by Eric B and Rakim is one of those tracks that emcees studied to develop their style. 'Schoolboy Crush' by the Average White Band was the sample used to create this hip hop masterpiece.

This episode I'll be breaking down 'Aint No Half Steppin' from Big Daddy Kane's 1988 album 'Long live the Kain' This track is a testament to lyricism and funky breaks.

Keith Murray is probably best known for the track 'The Most Beautifulest' but the b-side of that record 'Herb is Pumping' is not to be slept on. The beat for 'Herb is Pumping' was produced by none other than the green eye bandit Eric Sermon. The sample that was used is 24 Karat Black's 'Ghetto Misfortune's Wealth'

Large Professor is one of my top 5 favorite producers of all time. His production for Main Source, Eric B & Rakim and Nas left an undeniable mark on the game.

In 1996 the Large Professor released the single 'The Mad Scientist' with Geffen Records. The song samples Dave Matthews 'Part II Sandworms' from the 1977 Dune album. Click the Shoutomatic widget below to hear the episode.








What happens when Dr. Dre meets Dave McCallum? 'The Next Episode' off of Dr Dre's 'Chronic 2001' sampled Dave McCallum's 'The Edge'. The sample is so funky that Dr. Dre didn't even have to do too much to it to make a dope track.

This episode we break down a track by one of my favorite groups of all time - De La Soul. 'Millie Pulled a Pistol on Santa' is off of their second album 'De La Soul is Dead'. This track deals with the very sensitive topic of sexual abuse. Check out this classic track and hear the Funkadelic sample that was used to create it.

Today's show breaks down the Notorious B.I.G.'s 'Who Shot Ya?' Another one of my favorite tracks by a great emcee. David Porter's classic cover of 'The Masquerade is Over' was used to create this beat and the result is tremendous.

Episode 5 Special Ed 'I Got It Made' meets Ripple's biggest hit 'I Don't Know What It Is But It Sure Is Funky'. This is a match up of a lifetime that created one of the most classic hip-hop tracks of all time.

A Tribe Called Quest'The Luck of Lucien' is one of my favorite jams. This is A Tribe Called Quest at it's finest right here. The sample comes from Billy Brooks '40 Days' track. Billy Brooks is a jazz legend who pioneered the double mouth horn. The sample is so funky!

Queens and Jamaica get together this week but I'm not talking about Jamaica, Queens. The Beatnuts dug deep in the crates to find a jewel of a sample for their track 'Let Off A Couple'

Illmatic is undeniably a classic hip hop album. Nas's 5th single off the project was the hard-hitting 'One Love' produced by Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest.

Joe Cocker's 1972 self titled LP contains the hit single "Woman to Woman" that went on to be sampled by several hip hop producers on tracks for artists such as Tupac and the Ultramagnetic MC's.
